Nigerian teenage sensation Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei has officially joined Portuguese giants Benfica Women ahead of the 2026/27 season after signing a contract that runs until 2028, with an option to extend for an additional two years.

The 18-year-old forward expressed her excitement after sealing the move, describing it as a major step in her career with one of Europe’s top women’s football clubs.

Akekoromowei, who was born on November 6, 2007, is a graduate of the Asisat Oshoala Academy and has quickly emerged as one of Nigeria’s brightest young football talents. She has represented Nigeria at youth level, including the Falconets squad that featured at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia. Her rise to prominence came during the 2024/25 Nigeria Women’s Football League season with Nasarawa Amazons, where she enjoyed a remarkable campaign. The prolific striker finished among the division’s leading scorers and earning the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

In 2025, Akekoromowei completed a move to Bayelsa Queens, where she continued to impress with her performances and further strengthened her reputation as one of the most exciting prospects in Nigerian women’s football.
