Nigeria defender Miracle Usani joins former Turkish champions Ankara Buyuksehir Belediyesi Fomget
Ankara Buyuksehir Belediyesi Fomget Genclik Spor Kulubu have announced the signing of Nigeria international Miracle Usani, the highly rated defender who helped the Super Falcons win the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Turkish Women’s Super League club confirmed the move through its official channels, bringing in one of Africa’s most promising young players.
Usani, 19, was part of the Nigeria squad that lifted the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in 2024. The defender has also represented the country at youth level, featuring for the Flamingos at the 2022 Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup in India.
She started every match as Nigeria progressed to the semi-finals of that tournament. Usani also scored during the group stage, finding the net against Germany and New Zealand.
Her move to Ankara Buyuksehir Belediyesi Fomget Genclik Spor Kulubu adds further international and continental experience to the defender’s growing career. Usani previously played for Edo Queens in the CAF Women’s Champions League two years ago.
She made her senior debut for the Super Falcons at the age of 17 and has since continued to establish herself as a player with significant potential.
Usani’s development was also recognised last year when she was included in Goal.com’s list of the 25 best teenage wonderkids in women’s football. Twelve months earlier, she had been selected in the CAF Women’s Champions League Team of the Tournament.
Ankara Buyuksehir Belediyesi Fomget Genclik Spor Kulubu are former champions of the Turkish Women’s Super League. They won the title in the 2024-25 season before finishing fourth in the division last term.
The club’s signing of Usani gives the Nigeria international the opportunity to continue her progress in Turkey after gaining experience at both senior international and club level. Her record includes success with the Super Falcons, a major youth World Cup campaign with the Flamingos and an appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Widely regarded as one of the leading young defenders in African football, Usani becomes the latest Nigeria international to continue her career abroad. Her performances for Nigeria at the 2022 Fifa U17 Women’s World Cup, combined with her early senior debut and continental club experience, have underlined her rapid rise.
The 19-year-old will now continue her development with Ankara Buyuksehir Belediyesi Fomget Genclik Spor Kulubu, who will be looking to build on their fourth-place finish after winning the Turkish Women’s Super League in 2024-25.
