Omar Marmoush ends 139-day wait with Egypt double in South Sudan win

Omar Marmoush ended his 139-day scoring drought with two goals as Egypt beat South Sudan 5-0 in their second Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying match on Tuesday.

The Tottenham Hotspur and Egypt forward struck in the 49th and 83rd minutes to help his side move top of Group B with four points.

Marmoush’s first goal came shortly after half-time, before he completed his double late in the match. Both goals were shown in posts by beIN SPORTS on 29 September 2026.

The brace marked Marmoush’s first goals for Egypt since he scored against Saudi Arabia in a friendly on 27 March. Egypt won that match 4-0.

He had gone nine consecutive international matches without scoring, including five appearances at the 2026 World Cup.

Marmoush now has 13 goals in 57 matches for Egypt.

His goals against South Sudan also brought an end to a longer drought across club and international football. His previous goal in all competitions had come on 13 May, when he scored for Manchester City against Crystal Palace in the 31st round of last season’s Premier League.

Manchester City won that match 3-0.

Marmoush had not scored in any of his six appearances for current club Tottenham Hotspur since the start of the season.
