Southampton boss, Nathan Jones is impressed with Paul Onuachu’s quality and characteristics as he described the Nigeria international as a top player.
Onuachu sealed a deadline day move to Southampton from Genk after having a goals laden career in the Belgian Pro League and the manager feels the Nigerian is a player that scores goals with ease and one of the best in Europe.
“Paul is a player who scores goals and is one of the top goal scorers in Europe,” Jone told media.
“He gives us something we haven’t got, real size and aggression and something totally different to what this football club has had, along with maybe [Armando] Broja and [Graziano] Pelle as the last real target men at the football club.”
Onuachu scored 74 goals in 114 appearances for Genk before moving to Southampton.
Southampton will be banking on the prolificacy of Onuachu in front of goal to revive their ailing form this season as they seat rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League with 15 points from 21 matches.
Following a heavy thrashing at Brentford, the Saints will face Wolves on the 11th of February as they face an herculean task in surviving relegation this season.
