AFCON 2023: ‘Stop watching us on TV’ – Ahmed Musa urges President Tinubu

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to watch the team on television anymore.
This is in response to Mr. President’s discontent about the team’s poor performance in their last group match against Guinea-Bissau at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Despite securing victory with a lone goal, the Super Eagles finished as runners-up in Group A, and President Tinubu shared a prevailing sentiment that the squad has yet to unleash its full attacking potential.
Musa urged the President to come over to Ivory Coast and cheer them as they face Cameroon in their round of 16 clash on Saturday.
Although Peseiro’s men remain unbeaten in the tournament so far after two wins and one draw, a win would propel them to the next stage, while a loss would result in elimination, mirroring their fate in the previous AFCON.
The former Leicester City forward spoke on behalf of the Super Eagles players during a Zoom meeting with the Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, on Wednesday.
“We have a message that we are going to send you [Enoh] to the President,” Musa stated.
“We don’t want him to watch the game on TV anymore, we want him over here [Ivory Coast] to come and cheer us together. So this is our own message to the President.”
Caught off guard by the plea, Minister Enoh assured President Tinubu would honor the players’ wish.
“The president will come. I can assure you the president will come. He has told me when he wants to come and my prayer is that gradually we are going to get to the point where the President can come. He will come. I will bring the president, he will come.”
