Rwanda forward Innocent Nshuti is optimistic about his team’s chances as they prepare to host Nigeria in their second match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Nshuti, who scored Rwanda’s lone goal in their 1-1 draw against Libya in their opening match, is confident despite the Wasps’ previous winless record against the Super Eagles.

Nigeria had a dominant 3-0 victory over Benin Republic in their opening fixture.

Although Rwanda has yet to defeat Nigeria in their five previous encounters, Nshuti stressed the importance of maintaining their positive momentum.

The Wasps, who last qualified for the AFCON in 2004, are currently unbeaten in their last two matches under German coach Torsten Spittler.

“We have to keep performing at our best,” Nshuti told Rwandan news hub New Times.

“We did a brilliant job in our last game, and everyone is happy with our performance. We cannot afford to have ups and downs; we need to maintain our momentum. With many games ahead, it’s crucial that we continue winning to stay positive.”
