John Obi Mikel challenges Nicholas Jackson to sharpen goalscoring skills
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria legend, Mikel John Obi has called on Chelsea striker, Nicholas Jackson to be a more clinical finisher in front of goal.
The Senegalese forward came under heavy criticism from the Blues legend after the lost to Manchester City in the first game of the season but Jackson responded by scoring in the club’s 7-0 win against Southampton as he threw a shut up remark to Mikel.
Mikel didn’t take back his words on Jackson but he believes the striker is a good player who needs to improve his finishing and positioning to score more goals.
“I’ve always said what I’ve said about Nicolas Jackson. He is a good player, there is not once I have ever said he is a bad player,” Mikel was quoted by beIN Sports.
“The only criticism is his finishing needs to be much better. In terms of giving us what we want, being in the right place at the right time, he does for the team.”
The former Super Eagles midfielder said Jackson failed to digest constructive criticism which wasn’t out of place.
“It’s not coming from a bad place, it’s really constructive criticism. But he doesn’t (see it that way). That’s why when he scored, he told me to shut up!”
