Barcelona agree €4m deal with Fenerbahce for Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic
Barcelona have reached an agreement with Fenerbahce to sign Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic in a move designed to strengthen their options between the posts rather than add the new striker many supporters are expecting before the end of the transfer window.
The Turkish club have accepted Barcelona’s offer for Livakovic, according to Spanish newspaper Sport, with the transfer now expected to enter the documentation and formalities stage. The deal is understood to be worth about €4m.
Barcelona will now work to complete the paperwork before finalising an arrangement that would see Livakovic remain on loan at Fenerbahce for one season. He would continue with the Turkish side during the current campaign before returning to Barcelona next summer and becoming part of their squad.
The move reflects the club’s planning for the future of their goalkeeping department. Wojciech Szczesny is entering the final year of his contract with Barcelona, and the sporting administration wants to ensure there is an established alternative available alongside goalkeeper Joan Garcia from next season.
Barcelona believe Livakovic has the qualities required for that role. The possibility of completing the transfer for a fee of roughly €4m is also regarded by the Catalan club as a favourable opportunity to secure an important position in the squad well in advance.
There do not appear to be any major obstacles on the player’s side. Livakovic is understood to view a move to Barcelona positively and is waiting for the final stages of the process to be completed.
With Fenerbahce having approved the offer, the transfer is now at an advanced stage. Barcelona are expected to begin preparing the necessary documents soon, while the precise details of the loan will be settled before the agreement is formally concluded. That arrangement would allow Livakovic to maintain regular football during the current season.
The deal also involves a representative with an established relationship with Barcelona. Croatian agent Andy Bara has maintained strong links with the club’s senior figures for several years, including sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta.
Bara has previously been involved in a number of operations connected with Barcelona, including the transfers of Dani Olmo and Joan Garcia. His work is valued within the club, particularly because of his willingness to seek solutions during negotiations, including when discussions become complicated.
The goalkeeper agreement comes as attention remains focused on whether Barcelona will complete a deal for a new forward in the final days of the transfer window. While supporters have been waiting for attacking reinforcements, the club has instead made significant progress on a long-term goalkeeping plan.
Livakovic, who has been identified as a suitable candidate for the position, is therefore set to remain with Fenerbahce for the time being before potentially joining Barcelona next summer. The remaining steps centre on exchanging documents and finalising the loan terms rather than reaching a fresh agreement with the Turkish club.
