Brighton & Hove Albion consider move for Millwall forward Femi Azeez
Brighton & Hove Albion are considering a move for Millwall forward Femi Azeez as they review their attacking options before the summer transfer window closes.
The Premier League club’s interest in the 25-year-old is being reported by the BBC and comes as Brighton assess the possibility of losing Amario Cozier-Duberry, who has been linked with Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
Azeez is expected to leave Championship side Millwall this summer and is understood to be available if a suitable offer is made. Brighton have maintained an interest in the versatile forward after being impressed by his performances during the previous campaign.
The Nigeria international had a productive season for Millwall, scoring 11 goals and creating eight more in 34 appearances. His form helped establish him as one of the club’s important attacking players and has now attracted consideration from a Premier League side.
Azeez also received international recognition during the season. He made his debut for Nigeria at the Unity Cup in London in May, making an immediate impression during his first involvement with the national team.
Brighton’s interest is understood to be linked to the uncertainty around Cozier-Duberry. The young forward has been associated with a possible move to Rangers, and Brighton are assessing their options should their squad require an attacking replacement.
No agreement has been reached between Brighton and Millwall, and the Premier League club has yet to decide whether to proceed with a formal offer. However, Azeez’s availability and his recent form have placed him among the players being considered before the transfer deadline.
A move to Brighton would represent a significant step in Azeez’s career, taking him from the Championship to the Premier League. It would also give him the opportunity to continue his development at the highest level of English domestic football after a breakthrough campaign with Millwall and his first appearance for Nigeria.
Azeez joined Millwall’s senior set-up after developing through the English football system and has established himself as an adaptable attacking player. His ability to contribute both goals and assists was a key feature of his 34 appearances last season.
Brighton are continuing to weigh up their options, while Hull City have also been reported as considering a move for Azeez. The forward’s future is therefore expected to remain a matter of interest as clubs make their final decisions before the summer transfer window closes.
For Brighton, any move would depend on the wider situation involving Cozier-Duberry and whether the club believes Azeez can provide the required attacking depth. For Azeez, a transfer to the Amex Stadium would offer the chance to progress from the Championship into the Premier League after a season that brought both strong club form and international recognition.
