Edo Queens handed ASEC Mimosas test in WAFU B Women’s Champions League draw

Edo Queens have been placed in a demanding Group B for the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League, where they will face ASEC Mimosas of Cote d’Ivoire, Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa and AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic.

The draw gives the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions a challenging route as they seek another successful campaign in the regional competition. Edo Queens will be appearing in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League for the second time.

They made an immediate impact on their debut in 2024, winning the competition and earning qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League. Their performance continued on the continental stage, where they finished fourth in their maiden appearance at the CAF tournament.

Moses Aduku’s team will now have to negotiate a group containing three opponents from across the WAFU B zone before they can challenge for another place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The 2026 tournament will be hosted by Burkina Faso and is scheduled to run from Sunday, 23 August until Saturday, 5 September. It will act as the qualifying competition for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Hosts USFA have been drawn in Group A, alongside Dynamique FC of Benin Republic and ASKO of Togo. The Group A line-up means Burkina Faso’s representatives will begin the tournament with home advantage, while the three clubs in Group B will include teams from Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Niger Republic.

Edo Queens’ place in the competition follows their status as NWFL champions. Their previous regional triumph remains the club’s most significant achievement in the tournament, having secured the WAFU B title at the first attempt in 2024.

That victory also took them into the CAF Women’s Champions League, where they reached fourth place. They will be aiming to use their experience from that campaign as they prepare for another attempt to progress through the regional qualification route.

The draw has therefore set up an early test for Aduku’s side, with the winners of the WAFU B Women’s Champions League set to claim the zone’s qualification place for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens will face competition from ASEC Mimosas, Ampem Darkoa and AS Garde Nationale in Group B, while USFA, Dynamique FC and ASKO make up the three-team Group A.

The competition will be played in Burkina Faso over two weeks, beginning on 23 August and concluding on 5 September 2026.
