Werder Bremen left-back Felix Agu is set to make his debut for the Super Eagles tonight in a high-profile Unity Cup encounter against Ghana at Brentford Stadium in West London.
The match, widely dubbed the “Jollof Derby,” is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. Nigerian time and will reignite one of Africa’s fiercest football rivalries.
Agu, 24, was initially invited to train with the squad in London, but following confirmation of his eligibility by the German Football Association, he has now been cleared to represent Nigeria competitively.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Agu made two appearances for Germany’s U-21 team in 2019. However, he has long expressed his desire to wear the green and white of Nigeria, a dream that will be realized tonight.
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, who is actively reinforcing his squad ahead of crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, has high hopes for Agu.
“Felix is a very intelligent and consistent player. He’s someone we’ve monitored closely, and this is a great opportunity for him and for us,” a team source said.
With qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa coming up in September, Agu’s performance against Ghana could prove decisive in securing his place in the team’s long-term plans.
