Leroy Sane rejects Saudi transfer interest to stay at Galatasaray

Leroy Sane has decided to reject offers from Saudi Arabian clubs and remain with Galatasaray for the new season, ending speculation about a possible move to the Roshn Saudi League.

The Germany winger had been linked with Al Hilal in recent weeks, but reports in Saudi newspaper Al Youm say he has no desire to begin a new chapter in Saudi Arabia during the current summer transfer window. Instead, Sane has chosen to continue his career with the Turkish champions and wear the Galatasaray shirt again next season.

Al Hilal were among the leading clubs interested in signing the former Manchester City and Bayern Munich player. His name had been repeatedly connected with the Saudi club, with reports suggesting that a swap deal could be discussed between Al Hilal and Galatasaray.

That proposal was understood to involve Al Hilal defender Yusuf Akcicek moving to the Turkish club, with Sane travelling in the opposite direction to join the Riyadh-based side. However, the latest developments have significantly reduced the likelihood of the deal being completed.

Galatasaray are determined to retain Sane, while the player himself is also keen to continue his spell with the Turkish champions rather than move to the Roshn Saudi League in the current window.

Buruk plays key role in Sane decision

Reports from Turkey say Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk held several individual meetings with Sane in recent weeks to discuss his future. During those conversations, Buruk underlined how important the winger was to his plans and stressed the value of his continued presence within the squad.

Those discussions strengthened Sane’s position and helped convince him to stay in Turkey. The Galatasaray coaching staff have considerable faith in the Germany international and view him as an important part of their plans for the coming campaign.

His experience and ability to influence major matches have made him a key player for the club, further increasing Galatasaray’s determination to keep him. The Turkish side’s stance, combined with Sane’s own preference, has made a move to Al Hilal or any other Saudi club increasingly unlikely.

Sane joined Galatasaray in the summer of 2025 from Bayern Munich. He is under contract with the Turkish club until 30 June 2028.

Before moving to Turkey, Sane enjoyed prominent spells with Manchester City and Bayern Munich. He has now opted to remain at Galatasaray rather than accept a transfer to Al Hilal or another Saudi Arabian club.
