NWFL: Bayelsa Queen’s coach Ogbonda Whyte set Super Six target after unbeaten regular season

The head coach of Bayelsa Queens, Ogbonna Whyte is focusing on taking his side’s unbeaten record to the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs.

The Prosperity Girls ended the regular season as the only team without a loss after a 0-0 draw with Naija Ratels in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Yenegoa-based side won 10 games with four draws in their 14 games to end Group B as leaders.

After missing out on the league title in the last two seasons and also coming close as gaffer of Confluence Queens and Rivers Angels, Whyte is eyeing the top prize this time around.

”When this regular season started, we first of all gave ourselves five matches unbeaten,” Whyte said after Wednesday’s game.

”Then when we succeeded in getting that five matches unbeaten, we gave ourselves another target. So our target now going to the Super Six is to ensure we go first four matches unbeaten.”

Ogbonda who asserted that the home team (Naija Ratels) weren’t underdogs coming into the tie, was proud of his side for squeezing out an important point away from home to finish the season unbeaten.

“People who don’t know Naija Ratels think that Najia Ratels is just a team that you can come and beat. But when you play them, you know that they have a team. So for us to come to Abuja here today in their home ground and get a point, I would say that we did well. My girls did well, which means they are ready for the Super Six.” He concluded.

His team will face Rivers Angels, Naija Ratels, Edo Queens, Remo Stars Ladies, and Nasarawa Amazons at the Super Six in Ikenne this month.
