Osimhen scores twice as Galatasaray star reaches 62 goals for club
Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray beat Erzurumspor 4-0, taking his tally to four goals in two matches and strengthening the Nigeria striker’s early position in the Turkish League’s race for the Golden Boot.
The 26-year-old had already scored a brace in Galatasaray’s league opener against Corum last week and continued his excellent start with another two-goal display.
Osimhen was also involved in the opening goal before putting Galatasaray 3-0 ahead by capitalising on an error from the Erzurumspor goalkeeper. He then struck again with 10 minutes remaining to complete the emphatic victory.
The result gives Galatasaray an ideal start in their bid to retain the Turkish League title, while Osimhen’s form provides an immediate boost to the club amid continued uncertainty over his future.
There is speculation that the striker could leave Galatasaray before the end of the ongoing summer transfer window. However, those reports have not appeared to affect his performances, with Osimhen now having scored four times across his first two league games.
His latest goals have also moved him into third place in Galatasaray’s all-time list of foreign goalscorers. Osimhen has scored 62 goals in 76 appearances for the Turkish club.
Only Gheorghe Hagi and Mauro Icardi are ahead of him on the list. Icardi is the club’s leading foreign scorer with 77 goals in 134 matches, although he left Galatasaray during the summer after his contract expired.
Hagi scored 72 goals in 192 appearances, while Milan Baros is fourth with 61 goals from 116 matches.
Galatasaray’s all-time foreign goalscorers are:
1. Mauro Icardi – 77 goals in 134 matches
2. Gheorghe Hagi – 72 goals in 192 matches
3. Victor Osimhen – 62 goals in 76 matches
4. Milan Baros – 61 goals in 116 matches
Osimhen’s two goals against Erzurumspor further underline his importance to Galatasaray’s attempt to defend their domestic title. His first brace of the new campaign came against Corum in the opening league fixture, and he has now maintained that scoring rate in his second appearance.
The striker’s latest contribution also gives him an early advantage in the Turkish League scoring standings, while Galatasaray’s four-goal win keeps the club’s title defence on course. Despite the ongoing transfer speculation, Osimhen remains central to the team’s attacking threat and has responded with goals in both matches.
