Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande transfer delayed by agents’ contract dispute

Real Madrid’s move for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is being delayed by a dispute between two agencies claiming rights over the player’s representation, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Roc Nation currently manages the Ivory Coast international’s affairs, but Maxidel has filed a complaint with FIFA alleging that a contract was breached during negotiations for the proposed transfer to Real Madrid. The complaint centres on the fact that the Spanish club negotiated with Roc Nation while Maxidel claims it remained entitled to a role in the deal.

Maxidel was the agency that oversaw Diomande’s move from Leganes to RB Leipzig last year. As a result, the dispute is not regarded as a straightforward disagreement between two representatives. It could have a direct effect on whether the transfer to Real Madrid can be completed and the player registered.

FIFA regulations could allow the disagreement to affect Diomande’s registration with the Spanish club. The issue is understood to be financial and relates to a portion of the overall value of the proposed transfer.

AS reports that Real Madrid were unaware of the situation and are not considered a party to the dispute. The club therefore believes it will ultimately receive a ruling in its favour, given that it did not knowingly become involved in the alleged contractual breach.

For now, however, Real Madrid must deal with the consequences of the case before the transfer can be fully concluded. One possible solution would be for Diomande to receive permission to obtain a temporary licence while FIFA considers the complaint and reaches a decision.

That would allow the player’s registration position to be addressed while the financial dispute between the agencies is resolved. The case itself concerns only one aspect of the wider agreement and does not appear to have affected the main terms already negotiated between Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and the player.

The remaining elements of Diomande’s transfer are described as almost complete. Those details include the fee Real Madrid will pay RB Leipzig, the arrangements for making that payment, the required documentation and the new contract the Ivorian is expected to sign with the Spanish club.

The delay is therefore linked to the representation dispute rather than to the wider negotiations between the two clubs. The outcome of the FIFA case will determine whether the transfer proceeds without further complication or whether additional steps are required before Diomande can be registered by Real Madrid.
