Nigeria internationals Omorinsola Babajide and Gift Monday were instrumental in Tenerife’s victory over Real Madrid, securing the Teide Trophy for the second consecutive year in their preseason campaign.
The Super Falcons duo were dynamic on the left wing, creating numerous crossing opportunities but struggled to find a finishing touch. Babajide, in particular, was a constant threat from the left flank, exploiting spaces and capitalizing on Real Madrid’s positioning under Alberto Toril.
Tenerife took the lead with a goal from Mario Jose in the 78th minute, seemingly set for a win until Pisco’s late equalizer sent the match to penalties. In a tense shootout, Tenerife emerged victorious over Real Madrid, clinching the Teide Trophy once again.
Celebrating the triumph, Babajide and Monday shared photo of themselves, lifting the trophy on social media with the caption, “Start as you mean to go on,” on X (formerly Twitter).
Babajide and Monday will hope to continue their preseason preparations with a training camp in the Peninsula on August 28, where they will face Valencia CF and Madrid CFF.
