Olakunle Olusegun ends Russian Premier League drought in Rostov win

Super Eagles forward Olakunle Olusegun scored his first Russian Premier League goal of the season as Rostov defeated Lokomotiv Moscow 2–0 at the Rostov Arena on Sunday.

The matchday 12 victory was secured by two first-half goals, with Andrei Langovich putting Rostov ahead in the 12th minute before Olusegun added a second eight minutes later.

The goal ended a run of 14 Russian Premier League appearances without a goal for the former Golden Eaglets player. His previous goal in the competition came on April 18, when he scored against Dynamo Moscow during his time with FC Pari Nizhny Novgorod.

Olusegun had contributed to Rostov’s league campaign earlier this season, but only through assists. He set up goals against Rubin Kazan and Fakel Voronezh before finding the net against Lokomotiv.

The Nigerian also registered two goal contributions in April when Rostov beat Akron Tolyatti in the Russian Cup.

Sunday’s goal was Olusegun’s first for Rostov in the Russian Premier League this season and helped his side claim a comfortable home victory over Lokomotiv Moscow.

The forward has not played for the Super Eagles for exactly a year. His most recent appearance for Nigeria came in a 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Benin in Uyo.

Rostov will next be in league action on November 1, when Olusegun and his team-mates travel to face Dynamo Makhachkala.
