2025 CHAN Qualifiers: Augustine Eguavoen admits tough encounter with Ghana

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The interim head coach of Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, Augustine Eguavoen, has accepted the tough challenge posed by Ghana ahead of the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Qualifiers this month.

The first leg of the qualification fixture against Ghana’s Black Stars B was billed for the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 22nd December.

The second leg will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, 28th December.

Ghana stopped the Nigeria home-based team from qualifying for the last edition of the tournament, which Eguavoen is wary of.

“At every category, we met the Ghanaian teams; they are always tough. For the game, we will go out and work hard to qualify,” Eguavoen said.

Eguavoen has invited a total of 30 players to camp as the Nigeria Football Federation activates its commitment to ensuring the qualification of the Super Eagles B for next year’s African Nations Championship finals.

“We still have a lot of work to do because the players are coming from different clubs,” He added.

“We will try to see how we can blend them to play as one team and unit.”

2025 CHAN is the eighth edition of the tournament in which the Eagles have qualified for three out of the previous seven.
