Egypt’s youth handball team set world record with 83-goal victory over Fiji

Egypt’s youth women’s handball team made history at the World Championship in Romania by finishing top of their group with a perfect record and setting a new tournament record for the most goals scored in a single match.

The Egyptian team, known as the “Handball Pharaohs”, produced a remarkable attacking display to beat Fiji 83-17 in their final first-round match. The result was the highest-scoring game in the history of the world competition.

The victory completed an outstanding opening phase for the Egypt side, whose players were born in 2008. They began their campaign with a 27-24 win over Croatia before recording the same scoreline against France.

Those results gave Egypt nine points from three matches and ensured they ended the preliminary round with maximum points.

Their achievement carries added significance because it came in what was widely regarded as the toughest group in the tournament. Supporters and experts had described it as the “group of death” because it included established teams such as France and Croatia.

Egypt’s success against those opponents, followed by the emphatic win over Fiji, secured their place in the main round in impressive fashion. They will now take the confidence generated by their unbeaten run into the next stage, along with a new world record that adds to the history of Egyptian handball.

The 83-17 result also underlined the attacking strength of a promising generation, which has shown it can compete with leading European sides. Their flawless group campaign has given the team considerable momentum as they continue their challenge in Romania.

The record-breaking performance against Fiji brought the first round to a spectacular conclusion. Egypt not only claimed first place in the group but also established a landmark score that will now stand in the records of the world championship.

With the main-round qualification secured, the Egyptian youth team’s campaign has already exceeded expectations. Their victories over Croatia and France demonstrated their ability to handle strong opposition, while the comprehensive success against Fiji confirmed their attacking quality.

The combination of maximum points, top position in a difficult group and the tournament’s highest-ever single-match score makes Egypt’s opening stage an historic one. It also provides a significant indication of the strength of the country’s emerging players and their potential to challenge the continent’s leading teams.
