FIFA Secretary General Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Football Growth

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström has reiterated FIFA’s dedication to advancing women’s football, emphasizing its rapid growth, increasing commercial appeal, and expanding global opportunities.
Speaking at The Business of Soccer conference in Los Angeles, Grafström highlighted FIFA’s ongoing efforts to elevate the women’s game through strategic investments and newly introduced competitions.
“The growth in women’s football has been exponential,” he stated.
“The interest we see, the number of new competitions, the figures—commercially as well—are all proof of its rising impact. The introduction of prize money for players at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ was a groundbreaking step, and we remain committed to driving the game to even greater heights.”
As part of this commitment, FIFA has confirmed the launch of two major women’s club competitions: the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™ in 2026 and the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™ in 2028.
These tournaments will provide top clubs with expanded opportunities to compete at the highest level, further strengthening the women’s football ecosystem.
Additionally, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ will be hosted in Brazil, building on the momentum of the record-breaking 2023 edition in Australia and New Zealand. With unprecedented investment, increased visibility, and a growing global fan base, FIFA continues to push for equal opportunities and sustainable growth in women’s football.
“We want to keep accelerating progress and ensuring that women’s football reaches new levels of success,” Grafström affirmed.
With strong commercial backing, expanding global competitions, and increasing fan engagement, FIFA is setting the stage for an exciting future in women’s football.
