Jorge Jesus compares Victor Osimhen with Manchester City striker Erling Haaland

Portugal coach Jorge Jesus has drawn comparisons between Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen and Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland, Soccernet.ng reports.

Jesus made the comparison before Portugal faced Norway in their second UEFA Nations League fixture on Sunday at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo.

Haaland was Norway’s main threat going into the match. The 26-year-old Manchester City striker had scored 65 goals in 57 appearances for his national team, underlining the scale of his influence.

Asked about the potential impact Haaland could have on the game, Jesus pointed to similarities between the Norwegian and Osimhen. Both forwards are known for their pace, strength and ability to finish chances, while also having the physical qualities to impose themselves on opponents.

Haaland did score Norway’s only goal, but Portugal still secured a 2-1 victory and prevented him from having a greater influence on the match.

Both players are regarded among the leading strikers of the modern era. Their games are built around physical power, aerial ability and clinical finishing, while each has shown the mental resilience to continue producing when circumstances are difficult.

Haaland, however, has established a clear advantage in terms of his overall statistical record. At the age of 26, the Manchester City forward has scored 371 goals for club and country. Osimhen has 214.

Their availability has also differed. Osimhen has experienced recurring injury problems during his career, while Haaland has generally been more consistent in maintaining his fitness and remaining available for matches.

That contrast is evident at present. Osimhen is sidelined with another setback, whereas Haaland continues to score regularly in competitions across Europe.

The two strikers have also followed different career paths in terms of team achievements. Haaland has already won the UEFA Champions League and several Premier League titles with Manchester City.

Osimhen, meanwhile, currently plays in the Turkish Super Lig after complications surrounding potential moves to clubs among Europe’s traditional elite.

Despite the differences in their statistics, injury records and honours, both players retain world-class reputations. Haaland and Osimhen are expected to be remembered as two of the defining strikers of their generation.
