LaLiga: Sevilla coach confirms possible departure of Nigerian star Kelechi Iheanacho

By Wale Mustapha

Garcia Pimienta, head coach of Sevilla, has revealed that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho could leave the club during the current transfer window, according to Nigeriafootball.ng.

Iheanacho, who joined Sevilla last summer as a free agent, has struggled to adapt to life in LaLiga, sparking rumors of a potential departure. The 28-year-old winger has been linked with several English clubs, including Wolves, Ipswich Town, and Leeds United, from both the Premier League and Championship.

Pimienta confirmed that offers have been made for Iheanacho and acknowledged that the former Manchester City academy graduate may seek a move in search of more playing time.

“If he improves what we have, there are no problems. I don’t know why some players fit in better with a club or an environment than others,” Pimienta stated.

“I don’t know if Kelechi will stay until the end of the season. There have been offers for him, he is established in England, and I’m sure he wants to play more. I understand that he wants to leave.”

The coach also noted that while Iheanacho has not yet performed to expectations at Sevilla, including his own, he recognizes the player’s potential.

“With his CV, there are things that cannot be explained. Watching him train, you say, ‘this kid has plenty of quality,'” Pimienta told Radio Sevilla.
