Liverpool face Inter and AC Milan competition for England star Djed Spence

Liverpool are interested in signing Tottenham defender Djed Spence, but face competition from Inter Milan, AC Milan and other clubs in England and Italy.

Spence, 25, was reportedly one of England’s outstanding players at the most recent World Cup, held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. He impressed during the knockout-stage matches against Mexico, Norway and Argentina, attracting attention from a number of clubs.

The versatile full-back can operate on either side of the defence, but currently finds himself behind Pedro Porro and Andy Robertson in Tottenham’s pecking order.

According to The Sun, Liverpool have registered their interest in the former Middlesbrough player. However, the report suggests the club’s pursuit is unlikely to be straightforward, with several other teams also monitoring his situation.

Tottenham are believed to be open to selling Spence this summer as manager Roberto De Zerbi continues to rebuild the squad. The club have finished 17th in the Premier League in each of the past two seasons, increasing the need for changes to the team.

Spence is thought to be valued at about £35m, a figure that could make a transfer realistic for more than one interested club.

Liverpool appreciate the player’s qualities, but their interest is not considered to be the strongest at this stage. Clubs from Italy, along with other Premier League sides, are believed to be showing greater intent in pursuing a deal.

Inter Milan held talks over a possible move for Spence earlier this summer. Their city rivals AC Milan are also understood to be interested in signing the defender.

Spence’s ability to play on both flanks is likely to be a key attraction for the clubs considering a move. His position in Tottenham’s current squad, however, means the club may be prepared to listen to offers if its valuation is met.

For Liverpool, the 25-year-old’s experience with England at the World Cup has added to his profile, although they may have to act decisively if they want to beat the competition from Milan and other interested teams.

The situation leaves Spence with several potential destinations this summer, while Tottenham assess whether his departure should form part of their wider rebuild under De Zerbi.
