Mohamed Salah makes late Richarlison push for Trabzonspor transfer
Mohamed Salah has intervened in Trabzonspor’s attempt to sign Tottenham forward Richarlison, with the Turkish club working to complete the deal before the country’s summer transfer window closes on Friday evening.
According to ESPN, Salah and his new Trabzonspor team-mate Fabinho have contacted Richarlison in recent days to persuade the Brazil international to move to Turkey this summer.
Richarlison is understood to be open to starting a new chapter, with the current situation at Tottenham offering little encouragement that his future remains at the club. However, people close to the player are not particularly optimistic that an agreement can be reached before the Turkish transfer deadline.
Trabzonspor are continuing negotiations with Tottenham and have made a fresh attempt to secure the striker’s release. The English club have rejected a new offer from the Turkish side worth 20m euros.
The Turkish transfer window is due to close on Friday evening, leaving Trabzonspor limited time to reach an agreement with Tottenham and complete the necessary arrangements for Richarlison’s move.
If the deal cannot be concluded before the deadline, Richarlison could consider alternative options. One possibility would be a move to the Saudi league, where the transfer window remains open until 12 October. Another would be to stay at Tottenham until the European market reopens in January.
Richarlison’s time with Tottenham now appears increasingly likely to end, although the circumstances surrounding his departure have proved far from ideal.
The player and the club’s management have disagreed over the way negotiations about his future have been handled. That dispute has left Richarlison disappointed with Tottenham officials and their position during the process.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has also made it clear that Richarlison is not part of his plans for the current season. The Brazil forward was moved to train with the under-21 side before being left out of Tottenham’s registered squad for the Premier League.
The uncertainty surrounding Richarlison has continued since the Premier League transfer window closed, meaning a move abroad is now the main route available if Tottenham and the player are to part company before January.
Trabzonspor’s interest has therefore placed particular importance on Friday’s deadline. The club must convince Tottenham to accept a suitable offer while also persuading Richarlison that a move to Turkey is the right solution.
Salah’s involvement, alongside Fabinho’s, represents an effort from within the Trabzonspor squad to influence the forward’s decision. Both players have reportedly spoken to Richarlison as the Turkish club seeks to settle the transfer in the final hours of the window.
The outcome will depend first on whether Tottenham reconsider their position on the 20m-euro bid. If they do not, Richarlison may have to wait until the Saudi market closes on 12 October or until the European transfer window reopens in January before securing a move away from north London.
