Mohamed Salah vows to turn Trabzonspor disappointment into trophies
Mohamed Salah has broken his silence after Trabzonspor were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League by Ferencvaros, insisting the heavy defeat will not alter his commitment to the Turkish club or its ambitions.
Trabzonspor had been beaten 1-0 at home in the first leg before suffering a humiliating 4-0 loss away from home on Thursday. The back-to-back defeats ended their hopes of progressing in the competition and left them with a 5-0 aggregate loss.
Salah responded to the setback in a post on X, acknowledging the disappointment while saying difficult moments had shaped his career.
“Nothing in my career ever came easy. Bad nights and disappointments are part of football, and I have learned to turn them into motivation and into trophies.”
The Egyptian forward also made clear that he remained fully committed to Trabzonspor’s project, despite the scale of the European defeat.
“Trabzonspor is my club, and I am part of this project, body and soul. Last night will not change that.”
Salah said he understood the pressure surrounding the team and continued to believe that Trabzonspor could meet its targets.
“I know expectations are high, and I truly believe we are capable and will achieve our goals.”
He ended his message by stressing that his determination to succeed was genuine rather than a public-relations statement.
“The phrase ‘I came here to win’ is not just a slogan for me.”
The comments came after a particularly difficult two-leg tie for Trabzonspor. They were unable to score in the first match on home soil, conceding the only goal of the game, and then collapsed in the return fixture as Ferencvaros scored four times.
Salah’s message was aimed at reassuring supporters that the result would not change his attitude towards the club or the wider project. While the European campaign has ended, he said the disappointment could be used as motivation for future success and trophies.
The defeat represented a sharp setback for Trabzonspor after they had hoped to advance in the UEFA Europa League. Instead, Ferencvaros secured progress with a dominant overall victory, while Salah and his team-mates were left to reflect on two defeats in which they failed to score.
Despite the result, Salah maintained that high expectations should be matched by belief. His public response focused on resilience, loyalty and the need to respond positively after a bad night, rather than criticising the team or the project.
The Egyptian’s final message underlined the ambition he has attached to his time at Trabzonspor: winning is not merely a phrase he repeats, but an objective he intends to pursue.
