Moses Aduku eyes Nigeria’s first Champions League title with Edo Queens

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Head coach of Edo Queens, Moses Aduku is very excited after his team conquered West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) to pick the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League ticket.

The Benin City-based side defeated Ainonvi from Benin Republic 3-0 in the final of the 2024 WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers in Cote D’Ivoire last weekend.

The excited coach is on cloud nine with the triumph which qualified the team for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, the third Nigerian side to qualify for the tournament after Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens.

“I am very much excited and everywhere is bubbling. Celebration everywhere. Honestly that is my desire,” Aduku told Brila FM.

“I have not been happy that Nigerian teams have been struggling to win. Every team that goes for WAFU-B to represent Nigeria is all about Nigeria affair.”

With Champions League qualification in the bag, Aduku hopes his side can become the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Women’s Champions League.

“My prayer and desire is that we will do our best that we don’t go to the Champions League to participate alone but compete and try to win the trophy.”

In 2022, Aduku’s former club, Bayelsa Queens recorded the best performance by any Nigerian side at the CAF Women’s Champions League with a third place finish.

The feat is what Edo Queens intends to surpass at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa) had won two of the three Champions League titles with AS FAR FC clinching the 2022 edition on home soil.
