NPFL MD 11 Wrap: Doma United pip Tornadoes to go top as Enyimba bounce back

League leaders, Doma United continued their fairytale run in the Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership after edging Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in the Matchday 11  encounter on Saturday.

A solitary effort thanks to Nelson Abiam’s goal in the additional minutes of the first half gifted the hosts the maximum points in Gombe.

In Uyo, Kwara United forced relegation threatened Akwa United to a 1-1 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Uche Collins had put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute.

Akwa’s lead only lasted for two minutes before Sadeeq Yusuf equalised for the Harmony Boys.

Bendel Insurance picked a 1-0 win against Lobi Stars in Benin City as Junior Osaghae’s last-gasp goal in the additional minutes of the second half sealed the win.

In Aba, Enyimba bounced back from mid-week 1-0 loss to Remo Stars at home with a 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars.

Mbaoma Chijioke scored the winner from the penalty spot in the additional minutes of the first half.

Overall, Doma United top the log with 21 points after 11 games, a point ahead of Lobi Stars and two points better than Remo Stars which will host Plateau United on Sunday.

Enyimba (19 points,) and Bendel Insurance (17 points) complete the top five teams. At the basement of the table is Heartland FC with six points and Bayelsa United with nine points with both teams having games on Sunday.

Niger Tornadoes and Akwa United with 11 points apiece occupy the 18th and 17th positions respectively.
