NPFL MD 15 wrap: Rivers edge Kano, Remo falter to Tornadoes

Matchday 15 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season continued with seven games on Sunday.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United edged Kano Pillars 1-0 thanks to Aniekeme Okon’s strike as Pillars Rabiu Ali could not score in their fifth consecutive game.

Remo Stars lost 2-1 to Niger Tornadoes in their title push as Godstime Joseph and Papa Daniel scored for the host while Michael Ibe registered a goal for the travelers.

A 35th-minute goal from Ahmed Taofeek lifted Katsina United to a 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars returned from a 2-0 loss to Remo Stars with the same victory over Abia Warriors as Anthony Okachi (penalty) and Joshua Akpan helped the Oluyole Warriors to a win.

Heartland FC pipped Nasarawa United 3-2 in a five-goal thriller, with Promise Anyanwu, Suraju Lawal, and Christian Molokwu scoring for the host.

Anas Yusuf and Garba Abubakar ensured that the scoreline was respectable for the travelers.

El Kanemi Warriors and Bayelsa United played out a 0-0 draw.

In Lagos, Ikorodu City secured a 4-1 win against Akwa United as Tosin Oyedokun, Emmanuel Solomon, Olatunji Abdulmalik, and Ayomide Cole scored for the Oga Boys while Chijioke Alaekwe converted for the Uyo-based side.

Overall, Rivers United topped the log with 29 points, three points ahead of Remo Stars.

Ikorodu City (24 points) and Rangers International FC (23 points) complete the top four.

Meanwhile, Plateau United, Bendel Insurance, Akwa United, and Nasarawa United, all with 15 points after 15 games, occupy the relegation zone.

Enyimba FC and Rangers International FC will face off in the last game of the matchday on Tuesday.
