Real Madrid met by hostile Barcelona reception before El Clasico

Real Madrid’s squad was greeted by anti-Barcelona chants outside their hotel in the Catalan capital on Sunday, only hours before the eagerly anticipated El Clasico at Spotify Camp Nou.
Around 100 supporters gathered outside the InterContinental Hotel in Barcelona, near Montjuic, as the team arrived ahead of their Spanish league meeting with Barcelona.
Some of those present directed insulting chants towards Barcelona, according to Spanish newspaper AS. Kylian Mbappe was the last Real Madrid player to leave the team bus and received the loudest backing from the crowd.
Jose Mourinho was also met with chants, although they were not delivered with the same level of enthusiasm.
Footage shared by Mundo Deportivo on 25 October 2026 was accompanied by the caption: “Anti-Barca chants from Real Madrid fans in Barcelona.”
The hostile welcome reflected the intensity surrounding a match with major implications for the Spanish league title race. Barcelona can move nine points clear of Real Madrid if they win and strengthen their position at the top of the table.
Atletico Madrid’s victory on Saturday had reduced Barcelona’s lead to two points, increasing the importance of Sunday’s fixture for the league leaders.
Barcelona are aiming to maintain their positive run under manager Hansi Flick and move closer to a notable achievement: winning 10 consecutive matches since the beginning of the season.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are seeking to close the gap at the summit and disrupt their rivals’ plans in the title race.
The significance of the fixture extends beyond the points at stake. Tensions between the two clubs’ administrations have intensified, with disagreements over refereeing and exchanges involving Florentino Perez and Jose Mourinho adding another layer to a match already attracting widespread attention.
The meeting takes place at Spotify Camp Nou in an atmosphere of heightened anticipation, with the pre-match reception underlining the rivalry between the two clubs before the first whistle.
