Rumour Mills: Paul Robinson urges Rangers to sign Emmanuel Dennis
By Monsurah Olatunji
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has called on Rangers to make a move for Nottingham Forest forward Emmanuel Dennis this transfer window.
Dennis, 27, joined Forest in 2022 but has struggled to make an impact, with just two goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions. The Nigerian forward has found himself out of favor under manager Nuno EspÃrito Santo, with his last appearance for Forest coming in May 2023 against Crystal Palace.
Having been sent out on loan to clubs like Watford and Istanbul BaÅŸakÅŸehir, Dennis now faces an uncertain future at Forest, who are reportedly looking to offload him with just 18 months left on his contract.
Robinson, speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, believes Rangers could sign Dennis on loan but noted that the player’s substantial wages could present a major obstacle for the Scottish club.
“The stumbling block is going to be his wages,” Robinson said. “He’s reportedly earning around £4 million per year at Nottingham Forest, which is going to be a huge problem for Rangers.”
He explained that Rangers could potentially cover a portion of Dennis’s wages, but Forest would likely need to pay a significant percentage for a deal to go through. Robinson also pointed out that any loan deal would likely come with an obligation to buy, which could be a deal-breaker for Rangers given their current financial situation.
“He’s not been in favour since arriving at the City Ground and he’s clearly not in the manager’s plans. Ideally, they want to sell, so any loan would have to be an obligation to buy, and I don’t think Rangers can afford that at the moment,” Robinson added.
Robinson also mentioned that clubs like Sheffield Wednesday and Watford are also interested in the forward, but noted that his price tag might deter many sides from pursuing him.
Despite these challenges, Robinson believes Dennis would be a good fit for Rangers and could benefit from a fresh start to revive his career.
“Rangers would be a good move for him, but the financials will be tricky,” Robinson concluded.
As the transfer window continues, it remains to be seen where Dennis will end up, but his future at Forest appears increasingly uncertain.
