Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football national team arrived at the venue of this year’s tournament, Dominican Republic, on Thursday.

Players and officials of the Flamingos departed Nigeria for the Dominican Republic aboard a Turkish Airlines flight on Tuesday.

The West Africans will be in the host country for a two-week training tour in Santo Domingo, ahead of the commencement of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals.

Flamingos will face the host Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and New Zealand in Group B.

In 2022, Bankole Olowookere led the country to it’s best ever podium performance at this level, defeating Germany on penalties to win the bronze medal in India.

The feat equaled that of Ghana which also won Africa’s other medal at the tournament.

Head Coach Olowookere has listed Captain Taiwo Afolabi, forwards Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong in his 21-woman Flamingos’ roster for this year’s finals in the Dominican Republic.

The hopes of the West African giantd will be on Chidi who scored 13 of the team’s record-setting 25 goals in the qualifying series, as the 2022 bronze medallists strolled past Central African Republic, Burkina Faso and Liberia in the African qualification campaign.
