Fidelis Ilechukwu hails players, fans after Enugu Rangers draw at Sporting Lagos

By Wale Mustapha
Enugu Rangers Head Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has expressed his gratitude to the club’s fans and players following their hard-fought goalless draw against Sporting Lagos on Sunday.
The match, part of the Matchday 34 fixtures in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), took place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.
Both teams exhibited strong performances, but neither was able to secure the decisive goal. Rangers’ efforts were bolstered by the enthusiastic support from their Lagos-based fans, who turned out in large numbers to cheer for their team.
Ilechukwu, whose football and coaching career began in Lagos, acknowledged the crucial role of the fans’ support in the team’s spirited display.
“I must first thank the fans of Lagos who came out in their numbers to support good football,” he said. “My players also displayed a good understanding of what we came to Lagos to do. But for the agility of the Sporting goalkeeper, we could have been talking of a better result.”
Looking ahead, Ilechukwu emphasized the importance of preparation for their upcoming match against Enyimba FC.
“We are going back to Enugu to strategize for our next game which is against Enyimba and we expect to be at our best to get the result we desire,” he told Rangers’ media.
Enugu Rangers remain at the top of the NPFL table with 61 points from 34 games.
They are set to host second-placed Enyimba FC in a highly anticipated top-of-the-table clash next Sunday at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu. This fixture promises to be a critical encounter in the race for the NPFL title.
