Anthony Dennis nears €20m move to Al-Jazira from Goztepe

Reports from Turkey indicate that Anthony Dennis is close to ending the uncertainty over his future, with Al-Jazira in talks with Goztepe over a potential big-money transfer for the former Super Eagles invitee.

The United Arab Emirates club is understood to have opened advanced discussions with the Turkish side for the midfielder, who has been linked with a move away from Goztepe since the beginning of the summer transfer window.

While an agreement has not been confirmed, the negotiations are reportedly progressing well and could resolve the dispute surrounding Dennis’ next destination. The 20-year-old was previously close to joining Coventry City, but that proposed move collapsed before it could be completed.

Interest in Dennis has also been reported from clubs in the German Bundesliga. However, Al-Jazira appear to be the only side to have met Goztepe’s valuation of the player, who is rated at €20m.

Goztepe have left Dennis out of their recent plans in order to avoid putting a potential transfer at risk. His omission is understood to be connected to the ongoing negotiations with Al-Jazira as the clubs work towards a possible agreement.

Dennis made the move from Goztepe’s youth system into the first team last season. His performances at senior level led to increased attention and helped establish him as one of the club’s most valuable young players.

The midfielder’s emergence also brought him into the wider conversation around the Nigeria national team. He was invited by the Super Eagles in the past, although the current reports focus on his proposed club move rather than any international involvement.

For much of the summer, his situation remained unsettled. The failed move to Coventry City was followed by reports of interest from Germany, leaving his future unclear as Goztepe considered its options.

Al-Jazira’s apparent willingness to meet the financial demands of the Turkish club has now placed the UAE side in a strong position to secure his signature. If the talks conclude successfully, Dennis would leave Goztepe after only one full season connected with the first team.

The negotiations are therefore being closely watched as the clubs attempt to finalise a deal for the €20m-rated midfielder. Until an agreement is formally completed, Dennis remains a Goztepe player, but the latest reports suggest that his departure is increasingly likely.
