Club Brugge agree Vince Osuji transfer to Tromsø

Club Brugge have agreed a deal with Norwegian club Tromsø for the transfer of former Nigeria Under-17 defender Vince Osuji, according to OwnGoalNigeria.com.

The 20-year-old centre-back is expected to leave the Belgian side after two years without making a senior league appearance. The move to Tromsø is understood to be well advanced, with an official announcement expected once Osuji has completed a routine medical.

Osuji joined Club Brugge from Swedish club Kalmar during the January 2024 transfer window. His arrival followed an impressive six-month spell at Kalmar, which attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

However, his progress at Club Brugge has not developed as anticipated. Although he moved to Belgium with the promise of continuing his development, he has remained with the club’s youth team and has not featured for the senior side in the league.

Club Brugge have now decided to allow Osuji to move on at the age of 20, with Tromsø viewed as an opportunity for the defender to rebuild his confidence and continue his career in senior football.

The Norwegian club are competing in the Europa Conference League and are due to face Brighton on Thursday. Despite the timing of the proposed transfer, Osuji will not be eligible to play in that fixture.

His move is therefore expected to be completed away from the matchday squad, with the medical examination the remaining routine step before the transfer can be formally confirmed.

Osuji’s career has so far included spells in Sweden and Belgium. His short period at Kalmar, followed by his move to Club Brugge in early 2024, generated attention from clubs across Europe, but he has yet to make a senior league appearance since joining the Belgian side.

Tromsø are regarded as a suitable destination for the young centre-back as he looks to regain confidence and establish himself in first-team football. The club’s involvement in the Europa Conference League adds an immediate competitive backdrop to the move, although Osuji’s participation in Thursday’s match against Brighton is ruled out.

Club Brugge and Tromsø have reached an agreement, and the announcement is expected after Osuji undergoes his medical. Until then, the transfer remains subject to the completion of that process.
