Aston Villa sign Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye for €55m

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Senegalese forward Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth €55m, with the 18-year-old beginning a new chapter in the Premier League.

The transfer was formally confirmed after negotiations between the two clubs reached an agreement in recent days. Mbaye then travelled to England to complete his medical examinations before signing his contract with Aston Villa.

The move brings to an end the teenager’s brief but significant spell with Paris Saint-Germain, where he joined the academy at the age of 10. He progressed through the club’s youth system and made his senior debut in August 2024, aged 16 years, six months and 23 days.

That appearance made Mbaye the youngest player to start a match for the Parisian club. His rapid rise established him as one of the most notable prospects to emerge from Paris Saint-Germain’s academy.

Mbaye made 42 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring four goals and providing 45 assists, according to the club’s official data. During his time in France, he also collected several major honours, including two UEFA Champions League titles.

Despite his early breakthrough, Mbaye’s opportunities had declined by the time of his departure. He had not played a single minute for Paris Saint-Germain since the beginning of the current season, even though his contract with the club was due to run until 2028.

Aston Villa’s decision to invest €55m reflects the importance attached to the Senegal international’s potential as he moves into English football. The transfer also represents a major moment for Paris Saint-Germain, given Mbaye’s status as one of the leading graduates of its academy.

Reports indicate the deal could become the most lucrative sale involving a player developed at Paris Saint-Germain’s training centre. If confirmed, it would surpass the previous record set by Mamadou Sakho.

Mbaye now faces the next stage of his career in the Premier League, having moved from a club where he made history at an unusually young age. His arrival at Aston Villa follows a period in which he moved from academy football to senior competition at Paris Saint-Germain and won some of the game’s biggest honours before his 19th birthday.

The transfer gives Aston Villa a young attacking option who already has experience at the highest level of European club football, while Paris Saint-Germain have sanctioned the departure of a player once regarded as one of their most promising academy products.
