Atletico Madrid reiterate firm stance on Julian Alvarez future
Atletico Madrid sporting director Mateo Alemany has reaffirmed the club’s determination to keep Julian Alvarez, while confirming the Argentina forward is close to returning to full fitness after resuming training following a brief illness.
Alemany said the club had already made its position clear as speculation over Alvarez’s future continues with the transfer window approaching its conclusion. He declined to add to statements previously issued by the Atletico Madrid board and chief executive.
“We have been very clear and very firm on this matter. The board issued a statement about it, and the chief executive confirmed it clearly and firmly. I refer you to that; why should I say more?” Alemany told Movistar before Atletico’s match against Sevilla.
The sporting director was also asked about the prospect of Alvarez being involved in the team’s next fixture. He explained that the forward had spent several days feeling unwell but had now returned to training.
“He trained yesterday, and we hope he recovers quickly and is ready for the next La Liga match,” said Alemany.
Alemany added that he had spoken to Alvarez during the latest training session and indicated that the player appeared to be in good condition. Atletico are now waiting for him to regain his full fitness before he returns to the coaching staff’s selection plans in the period ahead.
The comments came before Atletico’s meeting with Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, a fixture Alemany expects to present a significant challenge.
“These matches are always difficult. Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan is a very difficult stadium, and Sevilla have made a great start to the season. There is always tension, but also confidence,” he said.
Alvarez’s situation has remained a focus of attention as the transfer window draws closer to closing, with continued reports and speculation surrounding his future. Atletico have nevertheless maintained the position they have publicly stated: the club remains committed to the Argentine striker continuing with the team.
The forward’s return to training offers Atletico encouragement after his short absence, although Alemany’s remarks suggest the immediate priority is to ensure Alvarez is fully recovered before considering his return to competitive action. The club’s stance on his future, meanwhile, remains unchanged.
