Ferran Torres transfer to Paris Saint-Germain nears completion as Barcelona talks advance

Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are close to reaching a final agreement over the transfer of Ferran Torres, with negotiations making significant progress and an official announcement expected soon.

The two clubs have narrowed the gap between their respective positions in talks over the Spain forward, to the point that some people involved in the negotiations believe the deal has effectively been agreed. However, the transfer has not yet been formally completed and several final details still need to be settled.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s opening offer for Ferran Torres on Monday. The proposal was worth 50m euros in total, made up of a guaranteed payment and performance-related add-ons.

Further discussions between the clubs have since brought them considerably closer to an agreement. Barcelona are seeking 50m euros as a fixed fee, with an additional sum to be paid through bonuses based on agreed criteria.

The difference between the two sides has not been considered large, allowing negotiations to move quickly in recent hours. Although the legal and administrative aspects of the transfer remain unfinished, the outstanding matters are not initially expected to prevent an agreement.

Those involved now regard the move as extremely close to completion, with the official confirmation potentially only hours away. Informally, the deal is already being treated by some of the parties involved as a completed transaction, despite the absence of a formal announcement.

Ferran Torres, who has one season remaining on his Barcelona contract, has agreed terms with Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain side. The player informed Barcelona last week that he had decided to accept the French club’s offer.

Barcelona accepted Torres’ position but made clear that they would only approve his departure for their preferred financial terms. Those terms consist of 50m euros as a guaranteed fee, plus a further amount in variables.

The negotiations over the transfer fee have been led for several days by Luis Campos and Deco, the sporting directors of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona respectively. Their discussions have focused on closing the remaining difference between the clubs’ demands and the structure of the proposed payment.

While the clubs are yet to give final legal approval to the transfer, the agreement over the player’s new contract means the remaining step is the completion of negotiations between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. The transfer is therefore expected to be announced once the final details have been resolved.
