Real Madrid await Federico Valverde injury news after victory over Barcelona

Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou was overshadowed by concerns over Federico Valverde, who was forced to leave the match with a muscular problem.

The Uruguay international is due to undergo medical tests at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training centre tomorrow, Tuesday, when doctors will assess the seriousness of the injury and determine whether he will need time away from football.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Valverde first felt discomfort during the opening half of the clasico but insisted on continuing. Denzel Dumfries began warming up in case he was required to replace him, yet the Real Madrid captain remained on the pitch until around the middle of the second half.

Valverde ultimately had to come off after playing through the pain for more than 40 minutes.

That sequence of events offers conflicting indications about the injury. His ability to continue playing could suggest the problem was not initially severe, while the decision to carry on despite the discomfort has raised concerns that it may have worsened.

The outcome of the examinations will be particularly important for Real Madrid because of Valverde’s influence in the side. He again impressed while playing at right-back and has become one of the key figures in the team’s recent improvement.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho praised the player’s determination after the match and said Valverde had given everything while on the pitch.

“There is another name I do not want to overlook, and that is Valverde, who played for more than 40 minutes while injured,” Mourinho said. “He suffered the injury, but he wanted to continue and push himself to his limits, and he gave everything he had while he was on the pitch.”

The club now faces a 24-hour wait for more information, with the medical results expected to clarify whether Valverde’s injury is a short-term concern or could lead to an absence.

The victory over Barcelona provided a major boost for Real Madrid, but the club will be hoping it does not come at the cost of losing one of its most influential players during the weeks ahead.
