Victor Boniface emerges as late Feyenoord transfer target before Eredivisie deadline
Victor Boniface is reportedly being considered by Feyenoord as the 16-time Eredivisie champions look to strengthen their attack before the Dutch transfer window closes.
Most major European leagues have already completed their summer transfer business, but clubs in the Netherlands still have until 23:59 local time tonight to complete deals. Feyenoord are understood to be exploring their options after forward Ayase Ueda joined Lille on Monday.
According to Voetbal4U, Bayer Leverkusen striker Boniface is among the players being assessed by the Rotterdam club. Feyenoord are seeking additional attacking depth and may need to move quickly, with only four hours remaining before the Dutch deadline at the time of the report.
Ueda finished last season as the Eredivisie’s leading scorer with 25 goals and had already found the net three times in four league appearances this campaign. His departure has left Feyenoord looking for a replacement capable of contributing immediately.
Boniface returned to Bayer Leverkusen this summer after a difficult 2025/26 season disrupted by a knee injury. However, his prospects at the German club remain uncertain. New head coach Carles Martinez does not appear to regard the Nigeria international as a central part of his plans, with Boniface reportedly behind Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane in the current attacking pecking order.
The 25-year-old had previously been linked with a move to Hannover 96 in the 2. Bundesliga, but that possibility is no longer available because the German transfer window has closed. Feyenoord therefore represent one of the few remaining opportunities for Boniface to change clubs before the start of the season settles.
Injury record a concern
Boniface’s ability is not in question, but repeated fitness problems have limited his opportunities. During his time at Werder Bremen, coaches acknowledged that his quality stood out compared with his team-mates. Even so, injury problems restricted him to only 11 minutes of action across the campaign, all of them as a substitute.
In total, he played 326 minutes during the season, a long way from the level he produced at his best.
During the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign, Boniface scored 14 goals and supplied nine assists in 23 matches. His performances were strong enough for him to be considered alongside Harry Kane among the leading strikers in Germany’s top flight.
A return to consistent fitness could revive his career. Boniface’s physical strength, technical ability and attacking output would make him a potentially effective player in the Eredivisie, where his qualities could stand out.
Leverkusen are thought to be open to a deal because Boniface does not appear to feature prominently in Martinez’s plans for the season. The structure of any agreement remains unclear, with a loan move and a permanent transfer both possible.
Boniface’s current valuation is listed at €5m by Transfermarkt. Whether Feyenoord can complete the move will depend on the club’s negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen and how quickly an agreement can be reached before the Dutch window shuts.
