Vosinha chooses Colo Colo over Inter Miami after World Cup heroics

Veteran Cape Verde goalkeeper Vosinha is set to join Chilean giants Colo Colo after his standout performances at the 2026 World Cup ended hopes of a move to Inter Miami alongside Lionel Messi.

Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa confirmed that a full agreement has been reached with the 40-year-old, who will travel to Chile in the coming days to complete a medical before being officially unveiled at Estadio Monumental.

“Vosinha will become a Colo Colo player. He will arrive in Chile soon, he will undergo the necessary tests, and then he will be presented officially at the Monumental stadium,” Mosa told French outlet RMC.

The move represents a surprise next step for one of the breakout stars of the World Cup, whose name had been heavily linked in recent weeks with a transfer to MLS side Inter Miami to play alongside Lionel Messi.

World Cup revelation

Vosinha, whose full name is Josimar Jose Evora Dias, was one of the revelations of the 2026 tournament, leading Cape Verde to the last 16 for the first time in the country’s history.

He produced a series of outstanding displays, including a clean sheet against Spain in the group stage, as Cape Verde recorded their best-ever World Cup performance. Their run came to an agonising end against Argentina in the last 16, where they were eliminated 3-2 after extra time.

His performances not only transformed Cape Verde’s campaign but also elevated his own profile, turning him into one of the most talked-about goalkeepers of the tournament despite his age.

Late-blooming career

Vosinha’s rise is all the more remarkable given the unconventional path of his career. He did not sign his first professional contract until the age of 26, having spent years moving between clubs in Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova and Angola.

Most recently he was on the books of Portuguese second-tier side Chaves, where his form earned him a place in Cape Verde’s World Cup squad and ultimately the platform to secure a move to one of South America’s most storied clubs.

Mosa stressed that Colo Colo’s decision to sign Vosinha was driven purely by sporting considerations rather than marketing value.

“From a sporting standpoint, Vosinha is in excellent condition, and that is why we decided to bring him in,” the Colo Colo president said.

Off-pitch phenomenon

Vosinha’s impact in 2026 extended well beyond the pitch. His performances, coupled with backing from popular Brazilian content creator Casimiro, turned him into a social media sensation during the tournament.

His Instagram following surged from around 50,000 before the World Cup to almost 30 million within a matter of weeks, making him one of the fastest-growing football personalities online.

The Chilean club will now hope that the combination of Vosinha’s experience, World Cup form and global profile can strengthen their squad on the field while also boosting their visibility off it, as the Cape Verde international prepares for the latest – and perhaps most high-profile – chapter of his late-blooming career.
