Liepaja linked with Gornik Boguszowice defender Michael Okafor

Michael Okafor, a Nigerian centre-back with Gornik Boguszowice, has been linked with a move to Liepaja in Latvia’s Virsliga.

The reported link emerged on 19 August, with Okafor’s current club and Liepaja identified in connection with a possible switch. The 26-year-old joined Gornik Boguszowice from Polish side Odra Wodzislaw on 8 February 2026 in a free transfer.

Okafor has made one recorded appearance since joining Gornik, playing 10 minutes in the VL Sachsen-Anhalt. He has also been listed in the squad for the Sachsen-Anhalt-Pokal.

His move to Gornik followed a short spell at Odra, whom he joined in August 2025 after a period without a club. Before that, Okafor had been with RW Thalheim, joining them from MKS Opolanin in July 2023. He left Thalheim a year later.

The defender began his time at MKS Opolanin after moving from Sygnal Lublin in August 2022. His recent career has therefore been spent moving between clubs in the Polish football system, with the reported Liepaja interest representing a possible move abroad.

Okafor, who was born in Nsukka, Nigeria, is currently registered as a left-footed centre-back at Gornik Boguszowice.
