Tottenham held by Nottingham Forest as attacking crisis deepens
Tottenham’s difficult start to the Premier League season continued on Saturday as they were held to a goalless draw by Nottingham Forest, leaving Roberto De Zerbi’s side with only one point from their opening match.
The result gave Tottenham their first point of the campaign, but the performance offered little encouragement in attack. They failed to score and did not manage a single shot on target against Nottingham Forest, underlining the extent of their problems in front of goal.
Tottenham had gone into the match looking for their first victory of the season after an opening spell that had fallen short of expectations. Instead, their lack of attacking threat prevented them from claiming the three points they wanted and ensured the teams shared the points.
For much of the game, the main concern for Tottenham was not simply that they could not find the net, but that they failed to create the level of danger expected from a side aiming to recover from a disappointing beginning. Their inability to test the Nottingham Forest goal left the attacking shortcomings particularly exposed.
The goalless draw means Tottenham have now collected one point, but it also increases the pressure on De Zerbi’s team to improve quickly in the final third. Without a more effective attacking display, their efforts to move away from a troubled start and compete more strongly in the coming rounds will remain difficult.
There was no breakthrough for either side, and Tottenham were unable to turn their search for a first win into the sustained attacking pressure required to secure it. While the point avoids another defeat, it does little to ease concerns over the team’s ability to threaten opponents.
The immediate task for Tottenham is therefore clear: they must find a way to become more productive in attack. Their failure to register a shot on target against Nottingham Forest was a stark indication of the work still required, particularly after a start that has not delivered the results or performances the club had hoped for.
The draw provides a first return from the season, but Tottenham leave the match with their attacking difficulties still unresolved. With the next rounds offering an opportunity to change the direction of their campaign, an improvement in front of goal will be essential if they are to recover and compete more effectively.
