Erling Haaland leads Premier League headed-goal chart as Manchester City striker strikes against Coventry City

Erling Haaland strengthened his remarkable record in the Premier League’s headed-goal standings by opening the scoring for Manchester City against Coventry City in the third round of the season.

The Norway international put Manchester City ahead after 26 minutes at the Etihad Stadium, scoring with his head during the ongoing league fixture.

The goal was Haaland’s 20th headed effort in the Premier League since he joined Manchester City at the start of the 2022-23 season, according to data from Squawka. That figure places him comfortably at the top of the competition’s list for headed goals during that period.

Haaland’s numbers underline the breadth of his threat in front of goal. Although he is renowned for his finishing with both feet, the Manchester City forward has also established himself as the league’s most prolific scorer from aerial situations since his arrival at the club.

Squawka’s ranking shows Aston Villa’s former striker Ollie Watkins in second place, with 16 headed goals. Watkins moved to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal this summer.

Chris Wood follows in third with 13 headed goals, while Manchester United midfielder Casemiro and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk share fourth place on 11 each.

The list published by Squawka reads:

“Most headed goals in the Premier League since 2022/23:

◉ 20 – Erling Haaland
◎ 16 – Ollie Watkins
◎ 13 – Chris Wood
◎ 11 – Casemiro
◎ 11 – Virgil van Dijk

Way out in front.”

Haaland had already scored twice in Manchester City’s opening two league matches this season. He found the net once against Bournemouth and once against Crystal Palace before facing Coventry City in the third round.

His latest goal means he has now scored in each of the first three league fixtures of the campaign, while also extending his statistical advantage over the rest of the Premier League’s leading headed-goal scorers since 2022-23.

Manchester City’s advantage over Coventry City came in the 26th minute of their match at the Etihad Stadium, with Haaland once again demonstrating the aerial ability that has made him such a dominant figure in English football.
