Nigeria forward Chinwendu Ihezuo scored her seventh goal of the Mexican women’s league season, contributing to Pachuca’s 2-0 victory over Puebla on Friday.
The hosts took control in the first half, with Ihezuo and Veronica Corral both finding the net. Ihezuo broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after a brilliant setup from Corral, who navigated past two Puebla defenders before delivering a left-footed pass. Ihezuo expertly tapped the ball in with her right foot, sending it into the back of the net.
Just four minutes later, Corral extended the lead. After receiving a pass inside the box, she skillfully outmaneuvered the goalkeeper, who failed to secure the ball, allowing Corral to easily finish into an empty net.
Ihezuo played 69 minutes before being substituted for Nina Nicosia, while her teammate Osinachi Ohale completed the full match for Pachuca. The victory keeps Pachuca in second place in the league standings with 32 points from 12 matches, just two points behind leaders UANL Tigres. They will face Toluca next on October 1, 2024.
