Hull City stun Manchester United as Semi Ajayi scores in Premier League return

Hull City marked their return to the Premier League with a memorable 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, with Semi Ajayi scoring the club’s first top-flight goal in nine years.

Ajayi gave the hosts the lead in the 17th minute, converting from a corner to put Hull City ahead early in the contest. The goal carried added significance for the Tigers, as it was their first in the Premier League since returning to England’s top division.

The Nigeria international was unable to see out the match, however, after suffering an injury. He was withdrawn in the 63rd minute and replaced by Paddy McNair.

Hull City continued to apply pressure before the interval and doubled their advantage seven minutes before half-time. Nobel Mendy found the net to give the hosts a two-goal cushion and put them in a commanding position.

Manchester United attempted to respond after the break and looked for a route back into the match. Hull City, though, defended their advantage effectively and held on to secure an impressive win and all three points.

The result represents a significant early statement from Hull City following their return to the Premier League. Their opening goal ended a nine-year wait for a top-flight strike, while the clean-sheet victory against Manchester United made the occasion even more memorable for the home side.

Ajayi’s contribution was central to the outcome, although his injury meant he had to watch the closing stages from the sidelines after making way for McNair.

Hull City will now try to build on the result when they travel to face Coventry City in their next Premier League fixture. The Tigers will take confidence from overcoming Manchester United and will be looking to maintain that momentum in their next match.

Manchester United, meanwhile, must respond to a disappointing defeat. They will have the opportunity to do so at Old Trafford, where they are scheduled to welcome Ipswich Town in their next Premier League game.

The loss leaves Manchester United needing a stronger performance in their next outing, while Hull City can celebrate a landmark victory that combined a historic club goal with a significant three-point result.
