Head coach of the Cote D’Ivoire senior men’s national team, Jean Louis Gasset’s contract with the team has been terminated with imediate effect.

This was confirmed in a release by the Ivorian Football Federation on Wednesday. with his contract terminated alongside that of his assistant Ghislain Marie Joseph Printant.

The string of poor results at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in the country were responsible for the termination of their contract.

After a 2-0 win over Guinea Bissau in the opening match of AFCON 2023, the Elephants under the tutelage of Gasset have lost their other two group games.

A 1-0 loss to Nigeria was followed by a disappointing 4-0 bashing in the hands of group leaders, Equatorial Guinea which broke the camel’s back.

The hope of the West African side progressing to the knockout stage via the best third-place finish is still hanging depending on the results of the last two group games in Korhogo and San Pedro on Wednesday.

Emerse Fae according to the release will act as interim coach for Cote D’Ivoire pending the procedure for the appointment of a new coach.

The Ivorian Football Federation also regrets the bad patch of form of the team at AFCON 2023 but remains convinced about the potential inherent in the team while calling on the populace to unite ahead of future outing.
