Lamine Yamal to celebrate delayed 19th birthday with 100 guests at Barcelona country estate
Lamine Yamal is set to celebrate his 19th birthday on 11 August, almost a month after his actual birthday, with more than 100 guests expected at a country estate near Barcelona.
The Barcelona forward was born on 13 July, but spent that date in the United States with the Spain squad for the World Cup. His birthday celebration is therefore taking place later, after what has been described as an exceptional summer for the teenager.
Just days after turning 19, Yamal lifted the World Cup with Spain. That success came only two years after he helped the national team win the European Championship.
Following a short holiday in Colombia, Yamal is due to mark his birthday on Tuesday, 11 August.
According to Spanish newspaper El Espanol, the party will be held at Mas de Sant Llei, a large country house in Vilanova del Valles, on the outskirts of Barcelona. The venue is normally used for wedding receptions and other large celebrations.
More than 100 guests are expected to attend, including several of Yamal’s Barcelona team-mates.
The event will be considerably smaller than Yamal’s previous birthday celebration. Last year, when he turned 18, more than 200 people attended a party that attracted considerable attention.
Among those present on that occasion were Yamal’s former girlfriend Nicky Nicole and Barcelona players Robert Lewandowski and Gavi. The theme of the celebration was inspired by the world of organised crime and gangster films.
Yamal is scheduled to rejoin his Barcelona team-mates on Wednesday. He is one of several players who reached the World Cup final and have been given time away from the squad.
Pau Cubarsi, Pedri, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres are also expected to return alongside him.
The delayed celebration comes after a particularly significant period in Yamal’s young career. He has combined major international success with his continued role at Barcelona, while his birthday events have also drawn attention because of their scale and guest lists.
His 18th birthday party included more than twice the number of guests expected at this year’s gathering. The latest celebration, however, will take place at Mas de Sant Llei, a rural venue outside Barcelona that regularly hosts weddings, rather than in a setting associated with the previous year’s gangster-inspired theme.
