Fiorentina’s Serie A troubles deepen as Torino claim first win of the season

Fiorentina suffered a third consecutive defeat in Serie A as Torino came from behind to win 3-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday evening.

The result leaves Fiorentina at the bottom of the table, while Torino collected their first three points of the season. The loss also extended a difficult run for Fiorentina, who were unable to take advantage of home support despite opening the scoring shortly after half-time.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Franco Mastantuono endured another frustrating match for the Viola. The Argentine midfielder is playing for Fiorentina on loan from Real Madrid, but he failed to make a decisive impact before being substituted at the interval.

Mastantuono was involved in Fiorentina’s clearest opportunities of the match. The 18-year-old attempted to take advantage of mistakes in Torino’s defence and managed to win possession from the visitors on two occasions. However, neither move ended with him finding the net.

Fiorentina had largely chosen to sit back and rely on counter-attacks, allowing Torino to enjoy more of the possession. That approach produced limited reward, with the home side struggling to turn their chances into sustained pressure.

The Viola eventually broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart. Matteo Pellegrino struck a powerful left-footed shot which surprised Torino goalkeeper Perri and gave Fiorentina the lead in the 48th minute.

That advantage did not last. Torino increased the pressure as the second half progressed and found an equaliser through Rolando Mandragora in the 74th minute. The visitors then completed their turnaround eight minutes later, with Che Adams scoring to put Torino ahead.

The two goals left Fiorentina unable to recover and condemned them to another defeat in the Italian top flight. Their latest setback came in front of their own supporters and followed two previous league losses, leaving them rooted to the foot of the standings.

For Torino, the victory represented a major lift after a difficult start to the campaign. Their first three points of the season came from a match in which they had fallen behind, but they responded strongly in the closing stages to secure the win.

Mastantuono’s limited contribution and half-time withdrawal added to the disappointment for Fiorentina. The Argentine had been expected to provide creativity in attack, yet his most notable moments came from winning the ball rather than creating or finishing a goal-scoring opportunity.

Fiorentina must now try to halt their losing run, while Torino will look to build on their first success of the campaign. The result, however, ensures that the immediate pressure remains on Fiorentina as they continue to search for points in Serie A.
