Gov Abiodun presents NPFL trophy to Remo Stars as Ogun-based club makes history

By Dayo Awoniyi

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, had the honor of presenting the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) trophy to Remo Stars Football Club on Sunday, following their commanding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City.

The win secured the club’s maiden top-flight title, marking a historic moment for the team and the Southwest region.

Despite an early setback, with Ikorodu City taking the lead, Remo Stars responded with a powerful performance, scoring four unanswered goals.

Sikiru Alimi, Ibrahim Shuaib, Babatunde Bello, and Olamilekan Adedayo all found the back of the net, sealing the victory.

Governor Abiodun handed over the NPFL trophy to Remo Stars in front of jubilant fans at the Remo Stars Stadium, celebrating the team’s triumph.

The victory marks a significant milestone for the Southwest, as Remo Stars become the first team from the region to win the NPFL title since Julius Berger in 1991.

With the league crown secured, Remo Stars will represent Nigeria in next season’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, a major step for the club on the continental stage.

Governor Abiodun’s participation in the title presentation highlighted Ogun State’s pride in Remo Stars’ historic achievement and the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting sports development within the state.
